...Feeding Stations!
Feeding Stations / Nursery Schools
Open Arms has a policy of providing nursery educaton to the children returned to their communities at two years old, whenever this is possible.

To provide this facility in places where there is none, four Feeding Stations / Nursery Schools have been constructed. Two of them, Namalo and Kumanda, are in rural areas outside the city, whilst Tisawateye is situated in the heart of Ndirande Township. A fourth funded by famous BBC presenter John Humphries is situated in Ulongwe, south of Mangochi.

In the centres up to 60 children a day receive a nutritious meal and three hours of basic nursery education, provided by village ladies trained by the Playgroups Association of Malawi. Open Arms privides educational materials and teachers’ wages and the food is provided via donations from Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi and Strathclyde University in Scotland.

The administration of the stations if firmly in the hands of the village communities.

Open Arms was very fortunate to strike up a relationship with DePuy International five years ago and they became one of the main developmental partners. With their help two of the feeding stations were built in 2006, and construction of the brand new Infant Home in Mangochi commenced in 2008.
