Open Arms

“Orphanage” is not the word we use to describe our Home. We prefer to use the term “transition home”.

Our objectives at Open Arms are to nurture and care for orphaned babies for the first two years of their life and thereafter return the child to its community and to surviving relatives.

The child and guardian, often a grandmother, are visited and supported by Senior Matron Rose Phiri and her Outreach Team. Every child is provided with a mosquito net, familiar toys and clothing. In addition the guardian receives an agricultural starter pack of maize and bean seed and fertilizer. This all happens at the end of Phase 1, which covers the first two years of an infant’s life.
