Edina’s New Bicycle Trailer For Ride To New School

Edina now attends a new school for children with special needs. To get her there we have worked with Sakaramenta to design a bicycle trailer. She loves her new ride, and after a few last adjustments it will be ready for the road.

Edina’s New Bicycle Trailer For Ride To New School

Edina Macheso has been with us for almost ten years. She suffers from quite severe Cerebral Palsy and has no close relatives. She is currently living in Rosemarie’s House, where she is often the center of attention. Her seven brothers and sisters there love her deeply and by and large include her in most of their play time activities. She has featured in our calendars and several of our previous newsletters.

Previously she attended mainstream school with her siblings. Expert observations from a rehabilitation center suggested that she would be better off in a special school. Until very recently this was not possible as such an institution was not available to us. However, a brand new school opened with teachers experienced with children with severe learning disabilities. Interested donors have made it possible for Eddie to attend. Our major problem was how to get her to the school from Rosemarie’s, 5km distant.

Help came in the form of a wonderful social enterprise named Sakaramenta that creates all kinds of machines based on the humble bicycle. Collaboration between them and us resulted in this eye catching buggy, in which Eddie travels to and fro on a daily basis. Her ‘chauffeur’ is one of our most trusted workers, Mr Maxwell Fondale. The sharp eyed will notice that his bicycle is an ex Royal Mail delivery bicycle from England, where they were surplus to requirements!
