A marriage challenge for two

At Open Arms we have a number of wonderful people who organise fundraising events for us.

Two of these amazing people are Sharon and Stu Allen.

Sharon volunteered with Open Arms for three months in 2004. Her experience of our work and our people has meant that she has kept us close to her heart ever since.

Sharon was at the opening of Harrogate House in Malawi and still remembers some of the children and house Mum’s who help to make Harrogate House a family.

The challenge ahead

Sharon and Stu will be cycling from John O Groats to Lands’ End on 27th August! Of course one of their main reasons is to help support the work that goes into Harrogate House but also to challenge themselves and to be able to do something together.

“We felt like we needed a new challenge, beyond getting on with each other! On a serious note, we both enjoy cycling and have been doing more of it together since we got married. Stu’s also cycled this route before and always wanted to do it again – so here we are!” Sharon told us.

“This challenge lets us see some of the great British countryside but I’ve got to admit I’m looking forward to when we actually arrive in Lands’ End! As the steep hills and chance or torrential rain does seem daunting at times.”

We understand that people take part in events or challenge themselves for a number of different reasons. For the Allen’s; “it’s seeing the miles go down each day.

Knowing the sense of achievement we’ll feel at the end and also knowing that we’re able to raise awareness and funds for our favourite charities”.
