Maria born two weeks ago and her mother died of post partum haemorrhage. Her dad is a farm labourer with 43 other children to care for. He has been to visit twice already even though he live 50 miles away.
The year 2013 has seen an increased number of new admissions in Blantyre: 29 arrivals, compared to 19 the previous year. This included two pairs of siblings who were deserted during family disputes. 19 children were reunited with their families.
For the very first year we had no mortalities in the Blantyre Infant Home. During the same period, 17 children were admitted to Mangochi and 12 were discharged.
