We are delighted that Hannah Hailu has chosen Open Arms Malawi as her chosen charity for her five day challenge.
12 year old Hannah, from Woking in Surrey, and two of her friends, Millie Norman and Freya Smith who are both 13, are doing a five day challenge to raise money for 2 of their favourite charities;
Over the 5 days the girls will take on the challenge of
- 1km swim (40 lengths of a 25m pool)
- 23.7mile bike ride
- 12 hours silence (the event they are most worried about!!)
- 4.5 mile run
- Cake sale at school
At the end of the events) they will divide the money raised between Open Arms and Young Minds ( a childrens mental health charity).
Hannah who used to live in Malawi told us “I am raising money for this cause because it was a major part of my life, living two minutes drive down the road from it. When I was a small child, my mum used to take Adam and I down to Open Arms and we would play with the young children and watch the babies sleeping in their cots.
I lived in Malawi for 10 years and it was an everyday thing to see children who had run away from home on the roads begging for money, food, anything really! I feel that every child deserves a better future and I also feel that at my age, this is the most I can do for that part of my life I have left behind.
If you would like to support Hannah, Millie and Freya, you can visit their online fundraising page (VIRGIN GIVING) Your support would be gratefully received, as the girls say , a little money will go a long way!
