Miles 4 Malawi 2022

Register your interest

On the 1st June we launched our second-ever virtual sponsored challenge to travel from our Open Arms Malawi base in Mangochi to our headquarters in Blantyre!

We are raising funds to support out Disaster Recovery Appeal after Southern and Central Malawi were battered by two severe storms earlier this year. As a result, the Community Outreach Team are working extra hard to provide the additional support currently needed by many children and their families living in the rural communities we serve.

You can join us anytime, so let's walk together!

The Challenge

Can you join us between 1st - 30th June in walking, running, cycling or swimming from our base in Mangochi to our headquarters in Blantyre, Malawi (216km) – whilst fundraising for Open Arms Malawi and our Disaster Recovery Appeal

To make this happen, we have teamed up with the World of Walking, a global charitable platform that enables participants to enjoy the benefits of exercise whilst fundraising, to provide you with a custom route map from Mangochi to Blantyre. We’ll be navigating our way across Malawi, ticking off milestones as we go.

Adults, children, individuals and groups alike can all count steps or track mileage, and you can even track your progress on the map. You can create your own groups (especially useful for schools or community groups!) and see how others in your team are progressing, or you can join our private 'Friends of Open Arms Malawi' group.

You can also find a Visual Step-by-Step Guide with screenshots of how to join as individuals and as groups below.

Each milestone highlights one of the nursery schools and feeding stations that we have helped to build and continue to support. They are an integral part of the work we do, and by providing preschool education and a nutritious meal to over 500 children every day, our nursery school programme is working to address important infrastructural and resource problems in Malawi. We hope you can join us as we embark on this virtual journey to Malawi and support our work!

You can join us anytime, so get in touch and register your interest below. We'll send you all the details of how to join the campaign.

The goal

With many still also feeling the effects of the pandemic, we need your help to meet increased demand on our outreach services and are looking to raise £5,000 before the end of June.

To get started:

1. You can set up your own fundraiser (such as on Just Giving)
2. And, start the walk here! (https://worldwalking.org/walks...)

All proceeds will go towards our Disaster Recovery Appeal, giving vital support to families in need in rural communities.

After the success of our first-ever virtual sponsored challenge in 2021, this year is the perfect opportunity to raise as much funding as possible and support our appeal and vital community outreach work. We'll send you updates and support for your fundraising every step of the way!

Alternatively, if you cannot participate in Miles 4 Malawi, you can still donate now to our Disaster Recovery Appeal and help get Malawian families back on their feet.
