Downe House School Visit

After spending their first morning with the babies in our Infant Home, the children assembled for a netball match with the girls from the Foster Houses, who were excited to have the chance to play against a visiting team.

After everyone had had their faces painted, a hotly contested game was soon underway. Neville, our boys and volunteers cheered and chanted from the stands and a lot of fun was had by all.

The next day saw the visiting group get to work at a Day Care Centre in the crowded township of Chilobwe, where they played with the children and worked alongside community volunteers to fill sand bags to shore up the erosion on the side of the playground. Some of the students also got involved in painting the play equipment, as well as some additional Malawian animals on a mural.

With just one final day to go, the students headed out to visit the Open Arms Nursery School and Feeding Station in Kumanda Village, where they had an opportunity to get to know how the school works and play another netball match against the village team. They also prepared a special traditional meal for the nursery children and netball team and shared lunch together with them all.

Our time with them has been short, but memorable, and we wish them an enjoyable remainder of their trip as they finally set off for a safari and eco-lodge on a small island on Lake Malawi.
