Join us in on the fundraising challenge of a lifetime and climb the highest peak in Malawi to help give vulnerable children in Malawi a brighter future. Embark on a thrilling three-day hike to conquer the majestic Saptiwa Peak, visit Open Arms projects and experience an incredible safari at Majete Nature Reserve.
After a fantastic fundraising climb to Sapitwa Peak in 2025, we are planning to do it all again in Summer 2027! You can read all about this amazing experience and what to expect here.
Mount Mulanje, known as the ‘island in the sky’ is the highest mountain in Malawi, and at 3002m, Sapitwa Peak is the highest point in south-central Africa.
This stunning mountain is well set up for trekking with a network of trails and mountain huts to stay in. Whilst the climb to Sapitwa peak is a challenging climb, it is achievable for any fit adult. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide and porters to carry your belongings, to help you achieve your goal and reach the summit.
On day one of the trek you'll climb to Chisepo hut, at the base of the peak, where you'll spend the night before embarking on the climb to Sapitwa the following morning. After celebrating reaching the top, you'll descend back to Chisepo for lunch before heading over the plateau to Chambe hut for another night on the mountain. The next day you'll descend, via the beautiful Likubula falls, with the chance of a refreshing swim.
Before you take on this incredible challenge, you'll get to spend a day and a half with the Open Arms team, as they visit children and families, and a nursery school.
As you travel through local communities, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Malawian culture, the challenges many families face, and the ways Open Arms is helping those caring for orphaned and vulnerable children.
This experience will give you a greater insight into the work of Open Arms, allowing you to see the real Malawi and experience the true Warm Heart of Africa. You’ll also witness first-hand the impact of your fundraising and how it will help to transform the lives of children and families.
You'll finish off your week with an incredible overnight safari at Majete Nature reserve, with the chance of seeing lions, elephants, zebra, giraffe and cheetahs.
Day 1 – Arrive Blantyre, welcome dinner
Day 2 – Outreach visits to families with the Open Arms team
Day 3 - Nursery School visit with Open Arms then transfer to Mulanje
Day 4 – Mulanje Climb
Day 5 – Mulanje Climb to Sapitwa Peak
Day 6 – Mulanje descent and transfer to Majete National Park for safari
Day 7 – Majete morning safari, transfer back to Blantyre
Day 8 – Fly home or continue with your own arrangements
