A good fit!

Supporter Marie Frauenschuh has been hard at work designing and making hoodies to sell at her school in aid of Open Arms Malawi.  She is an enthusiastic young girl, who has raised over £1,500 already.  Marie is not stopping there though, she is keen to get involved in all aspects of Open Arms from volunteering in Malawi to helping in our UK trust too.  Impressed by her commitment, we caught up with her to find out more.

How did you find out about Open Arms?

I closely worked together with our Cas coordinator in our school, who advised me to look at the open arms charity. I was not only looking for an organisation itself, more so the people behind it- a community that would appreciate my little help. I immediately fell in love with what Open Arms is doing by just looking at their website and had the right intuition by choosing it.

What inspired you to help?

I have always wanted to give something back to people and to be truly thankful for the opportunities I get in life. Open Arms seemed perfect to me, as I have the feeling I can most learn from children as they had to be extremely strong in their past. I want to see that a more difficult situation in life won't stop me from being happy. I have already and will continue to learn and I am extremely thankful for that.

What has been your biggest challenge?

As I am currently doing the IB, it was very challenging to manage my time. I have so many ideas what I want to do, but sadly a day has only 24 hours. I am very much looking forward to my gap year and will definitely use that time in order to help Open Arms the best I can.

What have you most enjoyed?

I enjoyed reading every email from Open Arms, informing me about the life in Malawi and the wonderful progress the charity is doing. That made me even more excited about the future cooperation and my stay in Malawi sometime.

What are your hopes and plans for the future?

I am definitely hoping to get the chance to visit Open Arms both in Malawi and in the UK, as I want to meet every face behind the organisation. Furthermore, I am looking forward to educating more of my classmates and inspire them to support Open Arms.

We’d like to take this chance to say thank you to Marie for her commitment and support.  Through her activities and an entrepreneurial mind set she is not only raising the vital funds that fuel our life changing work but she is inspiring support from others.  If you have a story of support that you’d like to share, no matter how big or small, we’d love to hear from you.  Get in touch now on hello@openarmsmalawi.org
