A Hole in One rounds off a perfect day for Open Arms

Open Arms’ second Golf Day on 8th May at Harrogate Golf Club, followed on the success of last years’ event with many teams returning for a second time. We were delighted to welcome teams from across the country including London and Manchester, all to take part in what has become a firm fixture in the Open Arms events calendar.

The teams all teed off in cheerful mood in the sun and despite the wind and torrential rain that moved in later spirits were not dampened and all of the teams returned wet but happy! In fact Brian Charlton from Stephen Neall’s team, Aye Up, even managed his first hole-in-one!  The teams were kept going by the thought of the Halfway House, stocked with an amazing selection of cakes and goodies baked by  the “Friends of Open Arms”. The delicious pork pies donated by Elite Meats of Starbeck for the second year, were described by one golfer as ’ the best he has ever tasted’, and we agree!

The day was rounded off, once everyone had celebrated Brian’s hole-in-one, with a lively prize-giving dinner. The Open Arms Trophy was awarded to Rudi’s Rabble,  which included Mark Rudolph, Mike Sleath, Simon Smith and Andy Eustace.  Other winners included Nick Hurley for the longest drive, Simon Smith won nearest the pin, and the team from Let’s Get Healthy won the Ladies Prize. The Brewin Dolphin Team won the newly introduced Pork Pie Prize for the wettest scorecard! A raffle and auction rounded off the evening and a fantastic total of £4,500 was raised!

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather on the day and kept smiling.  Our thanks also go to Harrogate Golf Club, Travelzoo, Ashville College and Alwoodley Golf Club for donating prizes and especially to the staff at Harrogate Golf Club who helped to make the day a huge success.
