It’s nearly Christmas – and our cards and gifts are back plus much more!

It’s nearly Christmas – and our cards and gifts are back plus new and exciting stock! Our 2020 Christmas card is called ‘Open Arms is Potty About Christmas’ and designed exclusively for Open Arms Malawi by a local Malawian artist called Lucky!  It shows a gloriously coloured but simple Christmas Tree with traditional Malawian pots. We are delighted with the finished piece and hope you enjoy it.  There are some of our other ‘best seller’ cards available from our online shop for you too.

The gift of supporting children in Malawi

Our Christmas gifts bring you our most popular presents.  These make an ideal and meaningful Christmas gift for the person who has it all.

The beautiful card that delivers your Gifts that do Good, features Tamala’s wonderful smile and story.  It speaks for the care, shelter and love given to every child at Open Arms Malawi and shows the difference that your donation will make to the lives of children.

Your gift will be presented with a picture and description of what the gift will pay for in Malawi.  Choose from giving Baby Milk and the Best Start in Life through to giving a Going Home Pack as children return home healthy and happy.

A special Christmas treat

We all love the surprise of opening a parcel. And that is the same for our children in Malawi.  You will find that one of our gifts is to give a Christmas present to one of our older children.

In our family homes the children usually wear second hand clothes bought from the markets, but at Christmas we want to give them the once-a-year treat of shopping for a new outfit and toy that they can choose themselves. Shopping for Sunday best is a great occasion. The boys often try on colourful jeans, and the girls love sparkly dresses which they will wear all through the year. This gift is called Make a Child’s Christmas and it really does!

A Gift from Malawi

This year we are bringing you a real treat with the option of buying a genuine Malawian gift from the small selection that we have. You can also buy a beautiful tote bag made in Harrogate from the same vibrant fabric!

You can find soft toys, small bags and aprons available through our online shop as well as cosmetic bags, elephant bags and pencil cases. These are all handmade in Malawi at Nettie’s Sewing Project. This is a wonderful initiative just next door to our Mangochi infant home where young people learn valuable sewing skills and earn a living through tailoring.

Zitenjis (plural of chitenji, are used for many purposes in Malawi, mainly by the women.  They use the 6 feet long pieces of wide fabric as wrap around skirts, blouses, head coverings and most importantly, swaddling their babies to them to keep them safe).

Do check out our online shop you can be sure that your gift will be helping someone in Malawi too.
