Running to make a difference

After years of waiting and many months of training, Open Arms supporter Adam Rae ran the London Marathon on Sunday in a very impressive 3 hour 18 minutes!

As well as being able to tick this monumental achievement off his bucket list, Adam also raised over £2,200 for vulnerable children in Malawi - which will make an incredible difference!

A seasoned supporter!

This is the not the first time that Adam - a long-term supporter whose connection with Open Arms goes back to his school days - has challenged himself to support our work in Malawi. Just last year, he took part in a gruelling mountain race in the Scottish highlands. But even then, he had his eye on London Marathon!

He shares:

"Participating in the London Marathon had been a long-standing aspiration of mine, a true bucket list event. Despite several unsuccessful attempts in the ballot over the years, I was overjoyed when Opens Arms Malawi extended an invitation for me to join the 2024 race. This opportunity was especially meaningful as I had previously run in two fundraising events for Open Arms.

In the months leading up to the marathon, I trained through the unpredictable weather of Edinburgh—running in rain, wind, and cold. Fortunately, on race day, the conditions were ideal for running, with dry and cool weather (unusual for late April). The atmosphere was electric, with supporters lining the route for the entire 42km route, cheering us on relentlessly. Though I hit a wall around the 35km mark, the exhilaration of crossing the finish line was unmatched.

I was delighted to be fundraising for Open Arms Malawi, a charity I deeply respect for its support of a truly meaningful cause. It is great to see and hear of the tangible life changing impact that the contributions make. Thank you so much for the opportunity."

No - thank YOU Adam, for all you've done to raise awareness and support for Open Arms!

The power of fundraising

Our work simply couldn't continue without our wonderful supporter base and we remain extremely grateful and humbled by the lengths many of you go to, to ensure vulnerable children in Malawi continue to receive the lifesaving care from Open Arms that they need and deserve.

Together, you've already managed to raise close to £20,000 over the last year through sponsored events, and that number continues to rise.

That's a lot of brighter futures you've helped to build!
