Turning pedal power into pounds for the children of Malawi!

We’re delighted to be running our second six day epic cycling adventure in September.  Do you know someone that could take on the challenge or can you help us spread the word?  The ride will cover 375km across some of Africa's most beautiful terrain, to raise vital funds for our infant homes and community work.

Malawi cycle challenge

Come September, you could be pedalling through 'the warm heart of Africa', whilst seeing first-hand the work you are supporting and meeting the children who will directly benefit from your efforts.

19 people took on the challenge in 2017 including Judith Rudolph our own fundraiser!  Reflecting on the adventure she tells us;

‘When I set out on the journey, I knew it would be life changing, I knew it would be tough, I knew that I would wonder why on earth I had started it and I knew I would meet new people.

I didn’t dream how tough it would be, how much I would learn about myself or how wonderful it would be.  It was simply incredible!’

This year’s ride will take in the same itinerary, covering many of Malawi's iconic sites: the forest town of Dedza, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, glistening Lake Malawi with its splendid sandy beaches and shimmering cool waters; the Liwonde National Park, where participants have the option of joining a sunrise river safari; and the magnificent Zomba plateau, with its stunning forests, streams and waterfalls and spectacular panoramic views.

The challenge is designed to be open to anyone who can ride a bike and give it a go. Last year's cyclists found it an amazing personal experience, ‘humbling and inspiring’.

If you're inspired by the idea of turning your pedal power into pounds for the children of Malawi, another participant has some words of advice. "Don't hesitate, just do it! I'm not a fitness freak and I'm no spring chicken either. But it's such a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for Open Arms, whilst having a great adventure. How can anyone resist!"
