Would you like ten days in Malawi?

In September 2017 a team of cyclists will set off for ten exhilarating days cycling across the magnificent Malawi countryside.

They will be raising funds to enable us to continue to give the love and support that we provide to all of the children that come through our doors.

Why not come along for the ride?

Places are limited, but there are a few still available if you or anyone you know would be up for the challenge. So please spread the word to your friends and family as it promises to be the trip of a lifetime.

The final touches

It is an incredible opportunity to have such stunning scenery as the backdrop to your cycle challenge. But we want it to be more than just about the ride, we want you to see Malawi through our eyes and feel the warm welcome that is unique to this special place.

So, to do this we have added in a visit to Mangochi as part of the itinerary. You will get a full day’s break from cycling to spend in the village and visit our Infant Home, and you may even get time to see the hustle and bustle of the popular market there too.

Cycle Malawi Challenge Day 2

What you’ll see

A typical day at the Home starts early with a busy handover from the mothers as nappies are changed and bottles or plates of likuni phala fed to the babies. After breakfast, children get ready for an exciting day at nursery, where they play, sing and learn their letters. You’ll get to take part in all of this and the children will love to show you around their little world.

Lunchtime is another round of feeding bottles and likuni phala, followed by more play and a nap. One of themost touching sights is when you to go into the room just as the children are waking up, standing up in their cots and putting their arms up to you or just waiting there to have their backs rubbed. It is an amazing place with the children tottering happily about, playing, giggling or just watching the world go by with their friends.

As well as visiting the Infant Home, you’ll be able to go with the matron on her Outreach visits. This will be to one of the local villages, where you will meet children who once lived at Open Arms at an early age and see first-hand the difference that we continue to make to their everyday lives.

While in the village you may visit one of our Feeding Stations where you can join the children for lunch prepared on huge rocket stoves. The picturesque beauty of the little ones splashing in the clean water as they wash their hands at the big urn always makes you smile. And their eager faces waiting to get their likuni phala give you a snapshot of what life is like in Malawi. As you enjoy a well-earned break from the cycling you’ll get to see how your hard work is really making a difference to the lives of children.
