Find out how we work with schools, what we can offer and how we can support you!

School partnerships have been instrumental for Open Arms and the communities we support in Malawi. Students have benefitted from learning about a different context and culture and challenge their existing beliefs. Schools have been able to work with Open Arms to support different community projects and see the impact they have through trips and visits.

To support you and your students we can:

Spotlight on Lancing College:

Lancing College have provided ongoing support for Open Arms over the years, and we were recently able to welcome students and teachers from the school for a visit to Malawi - the first group to visit since 2019! Annual school visits were unable to go ahead when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and trips were postponed in 2021 as well. We were delighted to have been able to receive them, where they visited our homes in both Mangochi and Blantyre. Norman and Wilson, two of the children that Lancing College sponsors, were also able to join them on a hike up Mt Mulanje, and the Lancing College students were able to visit the family home they sponsor, Rose's House.

Lancing College also supports Open Arms by hosting regular annual events, such as their Sponsored Walk, which takes place each September as students return to school, and their Seasonal Readings at Christmas-time, where they donate to Open Arms.

Matt Smith, the lead teacher at Lancing College that supports with the school's engagement with Malawi recently stated after their recent visit to Malawi:

"Lancing College were delighted to be back in Malawi for a month-long expedition in July (after an enforced four-year hiatus due to the pandemic), including reengaging with the people and projects they support through Open Arms. The seventeen Sixth Formers enjoyed memorable days visiting the infants’ homes in Mangochi and Blantyre and were delighted that Norman and Wilson from Rose’s House joined them for a three day hike on Mt Mulanje. A big Zikomo Kwambili from Lancing to all the Open Arms staff who helped facilitate these very happy times."

We are grateful to schools like Lancing College who have provided ongoing support over the years, and we look forward to welcoming more schools back to Malawi again!
