From Mount Mulanje to Ultra X Tanzania

Some people take on a challenge. Others take on every challenge—and then look for the next one. Caro, one of Open Arms Malawi’s remarkable supporters, is firmly in the second category.

Last year, she joined the inspiring team of twelve women who set out to conquer Mount Mulanje - Malawi’s iconic and formidable Sapitwa peak. The climb was no small feat: steep ascents, overcrowded mountain huts and long days on the mountain tested everyone’s determination. Yet Caro embraced it with grit, laughter and a deep commitment to the children and families supported by Open Arms Malawi.

But stopping after one monumental achievement? That’s simply not her style.

Next Up: Ultra X Tanzania

At the end of this month, Caro will take on one of the toughest endurance events out there: Ultra X Tanzania. This multi‑stage ultra marathon spans 220 kilometres and 5487m elevation over five relentless days, pushing competitors through heat that can reach 35°C, rugged terrain, and long hours on their feet.

Caro will climb partway up Mount Kilimanjaro, cross savannah and forest, and pass lakes alive with wildlife—an extraordinary backdrop for an extraordinary challenge. It’s the kind of race that demands everything—physical strength, mental resilience, and a powerful sense of purpose, and we don’t doubt that Caro has all three as she runs to raise vital funds for Open Arms Malawi.

Caro says:

“ I have been linked with Open Arms for over ten years now and have always been inspired by the work the charity does. Last year I was fortunate enough to visit Blantyre and some of the children and families who had been helped by the charity and was part of a group of phenomenal women who raised over £32,000 whilst climbing Sapitwa. It was a life altering experience for me, giving me direction in a world of turmoil and I am now taking on this challenge of a lifetime in Tanzania to raise funds for Open Arms so they can continue their amazing work and reach even more children. I’m just an ordinary person, daring to do something extraordinary — not for myself, but to help others along the way.”

Cheering Caro On

As she prepares for the Ultra X Tanzania challenge, we wish her all the luck and will be cheering her on all the way. Thank you, Caro, for every step, every climb, and every mile you’re giving to our cause. You inspire us, and you’re making a real difference to children and families in Malawi.
