An ongoing focus for Open Arms Infant Homes has been to support the next steps of older children who have been cared for by Open Arms since they were babies. It is a priority to make sure they are set up with the help they need to achieve an independent and fulfilling future of their own.

Farida was welcomed at Open Arms for temporary care after her mother struggled to look after her because of severe mental health issues. Her mother was found wandering the streets in Mangochi town and Farida was at risk. Read her story here.

Maternal mental health problems can be extremely challenging and in Malawi the team often meet children who have been affected. Isaac was born in 2007 and sadly his Mother had been suffering with her own mental health. They lived together in one of the townships in Blantyre.
